We service Worcester, MA and all of central Massachusetts. We cover all of Worcester County and parts of Middlesex County. We have also worked on projects in Boston and Cape Cod.

Make it a rule to never hire a handyman who comes to your home uninvited. Although he may seem friendly and polite he more likely represents an unreliable, even untrustworthy operation. There is a good chance he will ask for payment upfront and then do a poor job or not even show up to do the work you paid him for.

Instead, always do your research for a professional, honest, and established handyman service with excellent recommendations.

A good way to find a handyman you can trust is to ask friends, family, and neighbors for personal referrals. If they’ve had a good experience with a handyman service, it’s likely you will, too. As well as asking for referrals, ask questions about the handyman too.

Always review the cost of your project and ask if the price includes the necessary supplies.

Discuss whether your handyman will be paid on a per-hour or per-job basis. Most often a per-job basis will be a better deal because you will know precisely what the total project cost will be. Most of our projects are charged on per job basis but an average hourly cost for handymen in general could be $50 to $80 per hour.

Ask for a written contract but don’t sign it until you are confident you understand and agree with all the terms.

This will insure that you will be fully informed about your handyman’s quality workmanship at a price that fits your budget.

Tips for handyman work are not required but always appreciated. It is completely up to the customer’s discretion.

On completion of a large project some customers may tip 10-15% but it is always the customer’s decision.

More Questions

Before hiring a handyman it’s wise to ask about his qualifications and experience for the project you want to be done. Not all professional handymen do all jobs. For example, some handymen may not be certified in areas, such as plumbing and electrical tasks needed for kitchen and bathroom remodeling.

However, there are services that contract with a plumber or electrician who is licensed to do your project and that is fine. A handyman with the right connections can bring great value to his customers.

Also ask the following:

What type of work can you do?

Do you have local references?

How much will this cost for both labor and materials?

How do you price your work?

When will the work be done?

Do you have a written contract?

Do you provide a guarantee?

A successful, experienced handyman is going to be busy. Of course, that’s a good thing but it’s also why should inquire about a handyman’s current workload and schedule before you hire him.

Depending on your needs you may not want to wait a month or more until he finishes his ongoing work for other clients. Make sure he can begin your project at a time that fits your needs and schedule.

It’s also important to be flexible with a busy handyman because a handyman service with a large client base implies they do excellent work for happy customers.
